Know what's in the coin jar before the doors open.

Estate-sale companies email us photos of the coins, sterling and gold they find in a house. Within 24 hours you get a spreadsheet and a PDF: what each piece is, its melt value at today's spot price, and which pieces to pull for a specialist before the sale.

How it works

No app, no account, no login. If you can send an email from your phone, you can use the desk.

STEP 1

Photograph

Shoot the front and back of each coin, and a close-up of the stamp on sterling and jewelry. Number your photos (item01a, item01b...). A kitchen scale reading in grams helps but is optional. One-page photo guide.

STEP 2

Email

Send the photos to info@estatecoindesk.com with a line about the house and your sale date. We confirm we've got them. If a photo can't be read, we ask for exactly the shot we need.

STEP 3

Get your triage

Within 24 hours you get a CSV and a PDF. Each piece is marked pull for a specialist, sell by melt/bullion, price normally, or need another photo, with a one-line reason.

What you get back

This sample comes from our blind photo test lot: a cigar box of loose coins, some kitchen flatware, and two rings.

  • What each piece is, its date and mint mark, and its metal content (90%, 40%, 35% silver; sterling; 10K/14K)
  • Melt value at the day's spot price, with the time we pulled it
  • Look-alikes caught: nickel silver, silverplate, steel cents, clad halves, HGE "gold"
  • Key dates and varieties flagged to pull (1909-S VDB, 1955 doubled die, better-date Morgans)
  • A short "photos we still need" list when something can't be read
  • A do not clean reminder. Cleaning a coin can wipe out its collector value.

FAQ

Is this an appraisal?

No. It is informational triage from photos. We are not certified appraisers and we don't authenticate or grade coins. If you need a value for insurance, estate taxes, probate or a legal matter, hire a qualified appraiser. Use our report to decide what to pull and who to call.

Do you buy coins or make offers?

Never. We don't buy, sell, broker or bid on anything, and we take no referral fees from dealers. That is the point: the people who price your coins are usually the people who want to buy them. We have nothing to sell you except the report.

How accurate is it from photos?

Before launch we ran a blind test on 35 mixed items (coins, flatware, jewelry). We identified 33 correctly and made no errors that would have changed what an item is worth. The other 2 were partial reads where we asked for another photo. When a mint mark or stamp can't be read, we say so and ask for the shot we need instead of guessing. Grades from photos are always rough, so anything valuable gets a "pull for a specialist" flag.

Where do the melt numbers come from?

Standard US Mint metal specifications and the spot price at the time of the report (the report shows the time). Melt is a floor reference, not a buyer's price. Dealers typically pay below melt for bullion-type pieces.

What do you cover?

US and common world coins, US silver (90%, 40%, 35%), bullion rounds and bars, sterling and silverplate flatware and holloware, and gold and silver jewelry by stamp. We don't cover gemstones, watches, paper money or general antiques.

How fast is it?

Within 24 hours of receiving a complete set of photos. If we have to ask for more photos, the clock restarts when they arrive. Tell us your sale date and we'll prioritize the closest one.

What happens to our photos?

They're used only to prepare your report. They are never posted, sold, or shared with dealers, and they're deleted 90 days after delivery. See the privacy note.

Can I talk to someone?

Email info@estatecoindesk.com and ask. If you'd rather talk by phone, say so and we'll set up a call.

Informational, not an appraisal. We don't buy coins.

Estate Coin Desk reports are informational estimates based only on photographs you send. They are not appraisals, authentications, grading opinions, or offers to purchase, and must not be used for insurance, estate-tax, probate, or legal valuation. Identification, condition and metal content can't be confirmed without physical inspection, weighing and testing. Melt values follow the spot market and are not what any buyer will pay. Estate Coin Desk does not buy, sell, or broker coins or precious metals and accepts no referral fees.
